Donna Henry & Eric Hickson
Location: Grove Baptist Church Portsmouth, VA
It was June 1st 2008 at Grove Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Just before the start of the 9AM service I was sitting on the pugh, hands clasped together, looking down at the floor. It was then that I noticed the lady on my left scooted away from me and the most beautiful feet I had ever seen were moving in next to me. I thought, "Wow, what pretty feet this woman has...Get focused , you're in church!" Just then the Pastor came to the pulpit and in a thunderous voice said, "Turn to your neighbor and ask them, do they know how blessed they are to be sitting next to you?" So, I did. I looked at Ms Henry for the first time and...she was beautiful. I stumbled my way through, "Do you kn-kn-know how blessed you are to be sitting next to me?" I think she was taken back as well, because she never asked me, she just simply answered with, "YES!" We both laughed, but knew a connection had been made. We both enjoyed worship servce that day and at the end of the service I asked Ms Henry to breakfast. We got to Ihop at about 11:30 AM and enjoyed breakfast and good conversation until 3 that afternoon. There were sparks; definately sparks between us. I picked Donna up later that evening and we went for a motorcycle ride to Buckroe Beach. We enjoyed a live band and a moon lit walk on the beach that night. We were so happy that God had brought us together we hug just before leaving the beach. Just as we loosen our embrace, out of the car next to us chimed a lady's voice saying, "Y'all just keep loving one another OK?" We both smiled and said "Yes Ma'am." We left there and went to a late dinner at Mama Rosa's, there the waitress made a comment that we were a very nice looking couple. We left the restaurant about 10:45 that night and had to beat a storm back on the way home. Not only were the sparks flying between us, they were also flashing in heaven. This was the first day, of what has only blossomed, into deep love, respect and a wonderful friendship.
We would like to thank all of our family and friends for all the love and encouragement you have shown us over this past year. Thank you in advance for your gifts be it large or small, we thank you. Most of all we thank God for bringing us together. HE has truly blessed this union. So, to God be the Glory! Thank you and may God continue to bless your lives.
